3 inch vinyl record in oblong box with optical disc. The hardcover linen box is decorated with red and yellow needlework. Inside is an optical disc and a 3 inch vinyl record. The optical disc is supposed to be turned around, by rubbing the connected wire between thumb and forefinger, while the music is played simultaneously.
This is an exceptional piece in the oeuvre of Raymond Dijkstra and a piece of total art, wherein sound, image and action are dependent on each other. This piece is an unfinished piece; Because it only contains two of the elements required to finish the piece. The third and missing element is the action. The piece demands the participation of the player (the 'listener' / watcher'), and is only finished during the brief moment of action of the participant: the turning of the optical disc and the simultaneous playing of the record. When the record is ended or when the participant stops the turning of the optical disc, the piece returns to it's previous separated unfinished state of two elements; a music-record and an optical disc.
45 Rpm This is the first title in a complete series of 3 boxes with optical discs (The 2nd and 3rd title are: De horer (The hearer), De kijker (The watcher). Edition of 6
